Special Events

The Special Events on this page list other things we do during the year.

Membership Drives / Open House

Membership growth is an important aspect of the Sweet Adeline world. We are always looking for women who enjoy singing and would be interested in participating in our a cappella style of music. In order to find our new DIVAS we invite women that we meet in our lives to come visit our chorus. Each week our leaders teach all of us the skills of our craft and visitors have the opportunity to try it out, and hear and see what we present to the public.

Our next drive is our upcoming HOLIDAY ACADEMY. Go to the EVENTS dropdown menu for more information.

(Visitors are welcome each week.)

If you are an interested in more information about where we meet please go to our
"Join Us" page. We would love to hear from you via our "Contact Us" page.

Sacramento Valley Chorus Annual Retreat

Each year the Sacramento Valley Chorus gathers for their annual Retreat. It is one of the hightlights of our year as it is the time we gather with an International level coach to fine tune our "competition package" for the next Regional Convention / Competition in Reno, Nevada.

The weekend schedule includes a Friday night showmanship rehearsal, an all day Saturday rehearsal with some time spent rehearsing in costume, a Saturday night dinner with an entertainment package, and a Sunday morning "wind it up" rehearsal. When the weekend is over everyone is exhausted, but exhilerated and full of anticipation about the goals yet to be met.

On the weekend of March 24-26, 2017 we will be going to the Double Tree Hotel with our coach Betty Clipman. We are looking forward to fine tuning our package for our International performance and meeting our competition goals. Women who have been visiting the chorus but are not yet members are welcome to come to the retreat so they can also learn from the experience.

Race for the Arts

The 18th annual Race for the Arts was held on August 27, 2016. Participants run or walk and enjoy the entertainment provided by costumed characters, music, art, dance, and interactive booths.

Funds are raised for any nonprofit visual, performing, and cultural arts organizations or school music, drama, and art programs. Pledges are not a requirement of the Race, but they are a great way to raise awareness and funds for the organizations that participate. 100% of pledge monies raised by our members will come back to the chorus. Beginning this year, half of the money raised will go into our Angel Fund.

Members of SVC have been participating in this event since 1999. This year twelve members participated.

International CompetitionThe Sweet Adelines International organization holds an annual convention in October or November. For many years it has been held in different parts of the United States. For the last couple of years it has been in Las Vegas, but soon we will be going to New Orleans and St. Louis. Singers from all over the world come to participate in or to observe the choruses and quartets that compete. Some of the countries regularly in attendance are Canada, Australia, New Zealand, England and Sweden.

Many of the members of the region go to these conventions to see what skills International competitors have so they'll know what they need to do, if they desire to one day stand on the International stage. They also go to support our Regional members that are competing. This October, 2016, we will be going to Las Vegas to support our First Place chorus, Sound of Sonoma, our Wildcard Chorus, Mission Valley Chorus, and "Turbulence", our Regional quartet competition champion. The quartet winner is from the Regional competition that was held earlier this year. Several of our members will be attending the convention & competition.
